The Safety Harness Guide Every Worker Must Know

     时间: 2025-09-15

When working at height, safety should always be the top priority. In recent years, high-altitude falls have occurred frequently, many of which could have been completely avoided. Properly wearing and using fall protection equipment is a critical measure to ensure safety. Among these devices, the safety harness is one of the most common, fundamental, and effective forms of protection.

For example, the FP56A Full-Body Safety Harness, developed and manufactured by our company, features a full-body support design that distributes impact forces evenly during a fall, significantly reducing the risk of injury.

This guide will cover four key aspects of correct harness use: how to wear it properly, pre-use inspections, daily maintenance, and replacement timing.

1. How to Wear a Safety Harness Properly

   1. Release all buckles and return the harness to its initial state.

   2. Adjust to fit your body size, ensuring the straps accommodate your physique.

   3. Check for twists or tangles in the straps to avoid hazards while wearing.

   4. Insert your arms through the shoulder straps, ensuring they lie flat and untwisted.

   5. Fasten the chest buckle and adjust the tightness so the upper body is secured.

   6. Fasten the leg straps one by one; tension should be moderate—tight enough to hold, loose enough to slide a flat hand in comfortably.

   7. Final check: ensure all buckles are fastened and strap ends are neatly tucked away.

2. Pre-Use Inspection

Webbing: Check for cracks, broken fibers, or excessive wear.

Metal components: Ensure buckles and snap hooks move freely, are crack-free, and rust-free.

 • Connection points: Verify ropes and harness connections are secure.

 • Fit test: Wear the harness to confirm it does not loosen or slip.

3. Daily Maintenance and Storage

Handle with care: Avoid contact with sharp or hard objects to prevent damage.

•  Store correctly: Keep in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight.

Hang when not in use: Suspend on a ventilated, shaded wall; do not place under heavy objects to avoid deformation.

Cleaning: Wipe away sweat, dust, and oil with a dry cloth; clean and lightly lubricate metal parts as needed.

Avoid harsh cleaning: Do not use strong acids, alkalis, or high-temperature drying methods.

4. Inspection and Replacement

Routine self-check: Before each use, inspect webbing for wear or damage and ensure buckles function properly.

After a fall: If the harness has been subjected to a fall, stop using it immediately and have it inspected by qualified personnel.

Regular testing: Have the harness professionally inspected at least once a year to ensure compliance with safety standards.
